October 18, 1935 - November 1, 2010

Marlys I. Peterson, 75, of Britt passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, Britt, Iowa.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marlys Irene (Weiland) Peterson, the daughter of Fred C. and Irene (VanDusseldorp) Weiland, was born on October 18, 1935 in Britt. She was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Peterson in February 1953 in Mason City.

Marlys worked as a Nurse’s Aid at Westview Care Center in Britt and as a Residential Aid at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake for 20 years. She truly loved her family of 16 residents in Twilight Cottage at Opportunity Village.

Marlys loved spending time with her family, listening to her old-time country music, camping and visiting. She enjoyed taking that drive around town with Jerry most of all.

Marlys is survived by her husband Jerry of Britt; children: Danny (Karen) Peterson of Britt, Dale Peterson of Arnolds Park, Darin (Michelle) Peterson of Spirit Lake and Danise (Jason) Silber of Britt; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Mary Newton and Deloris Lowenberg; brothers: Vernon Weiland and Fred Jr. (at birth).
