L. P. Peterson Of Goodell Succumbs

Goodell (Special) - Funeral services were held 1:30 Friday afternoon for a Goodell man, L. P. Peterson, 75, at his home and at the Evangelical United Brethren church at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Donald Varce officiating. Music was furnished by the church quartet composed of Mrs. Henry Brede, Mrs. Donald Varce, Bill Butts and Amos Hanson, with Mrs. Paul Veldhouse accompanying on the piano.

Pallbearers were his nephews, Leston Wilson, Jr., and Wayne Wilson of Des Moines; Russell Kreitlow, Dows; James Peterson, Belmond; Edward Peterson and Avron Kreitlow, Goodell.

Burial took place in the family lot in Amsterdam cemetery.

Lauritz Peter Peterson was born July 16, 1883 at Reinbeck. When still a young man he moved with his parents to a farm east of Goodell in 1891.

On June 30, 1912, he was united in marriage to Laura Christie. They continued farming and lived on farms west of Goodell. After retirement from active work in 1945 they moved to their home in Goodell.

Mr. Peterson had been in failing health for a few years, but was able to be up and around and drive his car. He was last seen at noon in his yard by neighbors about 1:30 last Tuesday afternoon, his brother-in-law, Henry Nolte, a nearby neighbor, thought he would look in on him at his workshop at the rear of the Peterson residence. There he found Mr. Peterson lying on the floor having succumbed from a heart attack.

"Pete" as he has been known for many years to many friends was liked by all who made his acquaintance and was a good father and fine citizen.

He was preceded in death by three daughters and his wife, the later passing away November 7, 1957.

Surviving are nine children, Lauritz of Belmond; Mrs. Roland (May) Peterson, Hanlontown; Mrs. Leslie (Evelyn) Meres, Austin, Minnesota; Mrs. Ernie (Elaine) Woiwood, Garner; Mrs. Fred (Lula) Bell, Klemme; Norman of Corwith; John of Goodell; and Barbara and Christie at home. Also, three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Duntz and Mrs. Leston Wilson of Des Moines; Mrs. Harvey Harberts, Belmond; and one brother, Andrew Peterson of Britt survive him, also 31 grandchildren.

Obituary

Lauretz Peter, son of Lars and Karna Peterson, was born at Reinbeck, Iowa, July 16, 1883. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith at the rural community church of Fredsville and attended school and church at the country church there.

In 1896, the Peterson family moved to Wright County, settling at Dows. In 1901, they moved to a farm east of Goodell.

On June 30, 1912, "Pete" was wed to Laura Christie of Goodell with the late G. Harry Varce officiating. To this union 12 children were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson lived on farms near Goodell until Feb. 1945, when they retired and moved to town. Mr. Peterson enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and friends, and relaxing with his hobby - woodworking.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary June 30, 1957.

He leaves to mourn his passing, nine children: Barbara of Goodell, Lauretz of Belmond, Clara Mae (Mrs. Roland Peterson) of Mason City, Evelyn (Mrs. Leslie Meres) of Austin, Minn., John of Goodell, Elaine (Mrs. Ernest Woiwood) of Garner, Christie of Goodell, Lula (Mrs. Fredrick O. Bell) of Klemme, and Norman of Corwith.

Also 31 grandchildren, three sisters and one brother, and many nieces and nephews, besides many more distant relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife in Nov., 1957, three daughters, Karna (Mrs. Russell Hull) in Feb., 1938; Lorna June in Aug., 1935; and an infant who passed away in Feb., 1916. Also his parents, six sisters and two brothers.
