Tom C. Nelson, 68, Died On March 16 Of Heart Attack

Services Held At The Garner Methodist Church, Burial At Klemme

T. C. Nelson, 68, prominent resident of this vicinity for many years, died Sunday at Mercy hospital, Mason City, after a brief illness, and last rites were held Wednesday in the Garner Methodist Church.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. S. W. Cunningham and the Rev. A. W. Gauger of Mason City, former pastor of the Klemme Methodist Church to which Mr. Nelson belonged for many years.

Two hymns were sung by a quartet of Clair Tompkins, Wayne Lawhorn, James Gatchel and Dean Tompkins. Miss Barbara Jean Rankin was at the organ.

Pallbearers were Orville Maben, Clint Daniels, Harry Ruka, A. B. Coope. A. E. Boman and E. I. Brooker. Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Klemme. The Bohn funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Christian Nelson was born August 29, 1882, at Britt. At an early age, he moved with his parents to a farm north of Garner and later to a farm east of Klemme, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Edith Webner February 23, 1903. They farmed near Klemme for almost 40 years. Upon retiring from the farm in 1943, they moved to Garner where Mr. Nelson made his home until his death.

During the last few years, Mr. Nelson has been president of the Farmers Mutual Insurance company. He has also worked for the soil conservation committee the last three years.

He served his community, also as school director and township trustee in Avery township for many years. The various drives for community causes would find him active in their behalf. He was an active member of Farm Bureau.

During his young adult years, Mr. Nelson was converted to the Christian religion and has been a devoted member of the Methodist Church since. In the Klemme Church, he served many years as Sunday School superintendent and on the board of stewards and trustees. He was active on the committee for building the Klemme Church edifice.

Soon after his membership was transferred to the Garner Church, he became active in various responsibilities, including that of Lay Leader of the church.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife; two sons - Verner of Klemme and Harvey of Sioux City; four grandchildren; one brother, Andrew of Rockwell; three half-brothers, Ralph Nelson of Thompson, Jay Nelson of Yankton, S. D., and Fred Nelson of Ponta Gorda, Fla.
