Funeral For Wm. Nelson 79 Held, Belmond Jan 31

Former Goodell Business Man Died Jan. 27 At Iowa City

Goodell - Funeral services were conducted for Wm. Nelson at the Congregational church at Belmond, Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 31, with the pastor, C. L. Duxbury, officiating.

William Nelson, 76, was born at Cedar Falls on Oct. 17, 1868, and passed away at his home at Iowa City Jan 27. When a young man he moved to Goodell with his parents, coming from Cedar Falls. He owned and operated the local barber shop for several years.

Mr. Nelson was united in marriage to Blanche Farman of Goodell Jan. 31, 1900, and to this union was born one son, Herbert, who is stationed with the U.S. army air corps at Laredo, Tex.

A few years after their marriage Mr. Nelson sold his barber shop and with his family moved to Belmond. He took up the insurance business and continued for about 40 years. In Dec. 1938 Mr. and Mrs. Nelson moved to Iowa City and resided there since.

He is survived by his wife and one son.

Honorary pallbearers were George Ruka, Gus O'Kreug and O. Sanberg, Goodell; Joe Pletch, C. C. McGuire, Thos. McNulty, Dr. McBurney, Frank Barry, Dr. Wallace, H. N. Hill, Core Smith, Ed Hailey, all of Belmond. Pallbearers were Ed Kennedy, George Hake, C. N. Hildebrand, Ben Blake, C. C. Griesy and Herman Schultz. Burial was in Amsterdam cemetery east of Goodell.
