Last Rites Held for Daughter of Hancock Pioneers

Garner - Funeral services for Mabel C. Love, 73, were held at the Bohn Funeral Home Saturday with the Rev. J. Dallas Gibson, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Mrs. Love died June 17. Interment was in the Concord Township Cemetery.

Mrs. Love was born May 17, 1880, at Concord to John Christie Jr. and Polly E. Hobbins [Robbins] Christie, pioneer residents of this county. John Christie Jr. was the first county auditor in Hancock County.

She attended the Garner schools and was a member of the first graduating class in 1897. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1901.

Mrs. Love had attended the 50 year class reunion in 1951. She was a teacher in the Wesley and Garner schools and on Feb. 12, 1908, was married to Matthew A. Love. They were the parents of seven children, John C., James M., Eloise, Miriam, Quentin A., Mrs. Opal Loves Jones and Lucille.

Mrs. Love was preceded in death by her husband, who died Feb. 14, 1938, and by her daughter, Lucille, who died in 1918. Mrs. Love was active in community and civic affairs.
