Services Jan. 25th for Oren H. Johnson

Services were held Saturday, January 25th, for Oren H. Johnson, 72, a former state representative. The services were held in conjunction with his sister, Sylvia, who died January 19th in Grand Junction, Colo. Mr. Johnson died at the Belmond Community hospital on January 23rd, following a short illness.

The services were held from the Kanawha Lutheran Church at 1:30 with the Rev. Bernard Oebser officiating. Burial took place in Amsterdam township cemetery.

Born Jan. 17, 1897, in Kanawha, he was the son of Thor and Martha Johnson. He was a graduate of the Kanawha High School and was a veteran of World War I. He was married to Mildred Hoff April 2, 1923. He belonged to the American Legion, Farm Bureau and Lions Club.

Oren H. Johnson

Kanawha - Oren H. Johnson, 72, a former state representative, died at Belmond Community Hospital early Thursday, following a short illness.

Born Jan. 17, 1897, in Kanawha, he was the son of Thor and Martha Johnson. He was a graduate of Kanawha High School and was a veteran of World War I. He was married to Mildred Hoff April 2, 1923. He belonged to the American Legion, Farm Bureau and Lions Club.

He worked in the Kanawha Clothing Store many years and then was a rural mail carrier until 1956. He also owned and operated farms. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives in 1959 and 1960.

Surviving are his wife, a brother, Dr. Melvin T. Johnson, Washington D. C.; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Evelyn) Phillips, Grand Junction, Colo., and Mrs. John (Bernice) Wilkin, Forest City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Henry, two sisters, Gertrude and Sylvia, who died Sunday in Grand Junction.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Carter Funeral Home in Kanawha. Funeral services for his sister, Sylvia, will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Kanawha Lutheran Church. The Rev. Oebser will officiate. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery with Carte Funeral Home in charge.
