1907-1993

Services for Hugh D. Hummel, 86, Klemme, who died Saturday, July 10, 1993 at the Belmond Healthcare Center in Belmond, were held Wednesday, July 14, 10:30 a.m., at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme with Rev. Chris Thurow officiating.

Music was provided by Lynette Nuehring, organist, and a quartet of Gordon Beier, Ronald Brinkman, Harley Nuehring and Ardell Rosendahl. The congregation participated with hymns.

Casket bearers were Wilbert Huehring, Harry Peters, Jerry Johnson, Marvin Johnson, Bill Velau Jr. and Gary Johnson.

Burial was at the Ell Township Cemetery,Klemme, with the Tenold Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hugh Donavan Hummel, the son of LeRoy "Doc" and Maude (Wright) Hummel, was born June 15, 1907 at Elliott. He moved to Klemme in 1920 from Elliott with his mother and brother, Dwight.

December 19, 1928, he married Alice Johnson of Kanawha at the Lutheran Church in Mason City with Rev. O.L.N. Wigdahl officiating. They farmed southwest of Klemme until 1960 when they moved to Klemme. Hugh worked for many years for Ron Yohn Ready Mix and drove the Klemme school bus.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Klemme; four children, Leland and his wife, Beulah of Klemme, Ronald and his wife, Beverly of Ankeny, Lois Finlayson and her husband, Jon of Mason City, and Gary and his wife, Ann of Indianapolis, IN.; a special niece, Marie Perkins who has made her home with Hugh and Alice; seven grandchildren, Diane Stadtlander and her husband, Curt of Goodell, Joleen Chiodo and her husband, Ben of Murray, Shelly Seifert of Mason City, Jill Finlayson of Boston, MA., Kris Shafer and her husband Tom of Rudd, Renae Verduyn and her husband, Brian of Des Moines, and Kaitlin Hummel of Indianapolis, IN.; four great grandchildren, Holly and Andy Stadtlander, Matthew Seifert and Kaci Shafer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant sister, Gladys; and a brother.
