Edward F. Hughes, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hughes, was born at Forest City, on July 18, 1882. He grew to manhood in his home vicinity. On Oct. 25, 1920 he was united in marriage to Josephine White of Goodell. They made their home in Wyoming for a number of years and later returned to Iowa and engaged in business in Goodell. Sept. 26, 1940 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Carrie Reif of Meservey and the home was established in Hampton where they had since operated a service station and cabin camp. After several months of failing health, Ed Hughes died at the Hampton Lutheran hospital on Oct. 17, 1946, at the age of 64 years and three months. His parents, three sisters, and one brother preceded him in death.
Hew leaves his wife, four brothers, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn his passing.

The funeral service was held in the Goodell United Brethren church Sunday afternoon. Rev. W. G. Rowley of the Hampton Methodist church was in charge of the service assisted by the Rev. Carleton Spencer, pastor of the local church. Music was furnished by the church quartet, W. E. Burk of Belmond, Amos Hanson, J. J. Cook and V. E. Harris, with Mrs. Ernie Kurtz at the piano.
