Carrie C. Hughes, 70, Dies Friday, August 16, following Long Illness

Death Follows Son's Almost Five Years To The Year, Funeral Held Sunday

Mrs. Carrie C. Hughes, ages 70, passed away at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Hughes, at approximately 6 o'clock P. M., Friday, August 16. Mrs. Hughes' death came just five years and one day, following that of her son, Edward, who died August 15, 1941.

Mrs. Hughes was born at Copenhagen, Denmark, June 17, 1876, and came to this community when she was only two years of age.

On August 27, 1893, she was united in marriage to John E. Hughes of Forest City. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes lived on a farm near Forest City for a while; then moved to Minnesota for a year; then to Wisconsin for a year, and then to Goodell. They remained in Goodell until the fall of 1919, when they moved to Garner.

To this marriage, five children were born, four of whom are living. They are: Clinton F. of Chicago, Ill; Robert E. of Knoxville; Mrs. Dulcie Mayland of Spring Valley, Minn.; and Mrs. Ethel Dyckman of Evansville, Ind. Mr. Hughes preceded his wife in death, his passing occurring in 1938.

In addition to her children and a host of loving friends, Mrs. Hughes leaves to mourn her passing: four grandsons, two granddaughters, one great grandson, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Diemer of Freeport, Ill.; Mrs. Alpha Church of Minneapolis, Minn., two brothers, Henry Christensen, Kanawha, and Harvey Christensen of Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in church work.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Sunday, August 18 and interment was at the Amsterdam cemetery,Goodell. The pallbearers were Edwin Greiman, Warren Gilbert, Henry Heddens, Ronald Yohn, Earl Stille and Halger Elling.
