George Houdek Died At Oakdale Sanitarium After A Long Illness
Son Of Mrs. Anna Houdek Buried In Duncan Cemetery Monday
George Houdek, 47, died at Oakdale sanitarium Friday forenoon, March 13. This information was brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna Houdek, shortly after the noon hour of the day of his death.
For many years the territory south and west of Garner was the home of George Houdek. He always made his home with his parents up until the time he entered Oakdale sanitarium, now nearly two years ago. Many Leader readers will recall that about three years ago, George sustained serious injury when he fell from the roof of a barn on the farm of his mother. The seriousness of his injury was not realized at the time, but never since that day was George a well man.
Wednesday of this week, two of George's brothers, Charles and William motored to Oakdale and spent the day with him. At that time he appeared to be fully as well as he had been for months.
George was one of thirteen children, nine of their family, along with the mother, survive him. He is the fourth of the children to pass to the great beyond. The brothers are: Jim of near Cresco, Iowa; Tony, of Garner; Louis, of Protovin, Iowa; Joe, Fred, Charles and William, who live on the farm with their mother, and Frank, who operates a farm joining the home place. His only sister is Mrs. Mary Sindelar of Spillville. His father died in 1920.
The body was shipped from Oakdale Saturday. Funeral services were held at St. Wencealaus Catholic church, Duncan, Monday, March 16, at 9:00 o'clock, the Rev. Fr. Kopecky pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery west of Duncan.
