Services held Wednesday for retired police chief

Harvey E. Hosier, 65, who retired Jan. 1 as Forest City's chief of police after serving on the force since 1962, died Sunday morning at a Mason City hospital.

The retired police chief became ill at his Forest City home early Sunday morning, and was transferred to a Mason City hospital where he died shortly after arrival. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

A son of David and Cora (Batton) Hosier, Mr. Hosier was born Oct. 24, 1908, near Creston in Union county, Iowa. As a child he moved to Buffalo Center with his family, where he received is education and was graduated from high school.

On Oct. 24, 1929, Mr. Hosier was married to Blanche Lloyd in Algona. The couple established their first home near Swea City, but in 1941 moved to Forest City where Mr. Hosier worked on the Jay Brooker farm. In 1947, he began employment with Eymann's Inc.

In 1962, while working for the Eymann firm, Mr. Hosier joined the Forest City police force as a part-time officer. He joined two other officers as full-time policeman in September of 1963.

On Jan. 1, 1968, Mr. Hosier was named chief of police, a position he held until retiring Jan. 1st of this year. Since his retirement, he had continued to work on a part-time basis with the police force.

Mr. Hosier is survived by his wife, Blanche, and two daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Delores) Bagne of Baudette, Minn., and Mrs. James (Patricia) Showalter of Woden; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard.
