Services held for Verdi E. Harris
Funeral services for Verdi Harris, former Goodell banker, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday in the United Methodist church in Goodell. Rev. Byron D. Surface will officiate. Burial will be in the Amsterdam cemetery. The Willim-Andrew Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harris died Tuesday morning in the Belmond Community hospital following a lengthy illness.
Verdi E. Harris was born Jan. 7, 1897, in Cabool, Mo., the son of Henry and Julia Jones Harris. As a youth he moved with his parents to Kansas and later was employed in the bank at Murdock, Kan., for a period of 27 years.
On Dec. 28, 1924, he was married to Marie Hardesty in Kingman, Kan. In 1945 they moved to Goodell where he owned and operated the State Savings bank for 25 years. The Harrises sold their banking interests in Goodell and retired two years ago.
Mr. Harris served in the armed forces in World War I, was a member of the Oddfellows, the American Legion, and a member of the church choir in Goodell for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, eight brothers; Merritt of Phoenix, Ariz., Ethmer of Ponca City, Okla., Oden of Meeker, Colo., Urban of Eureka, Calif., Gilbert of Colorado Springs, Colo., Donald and Loren of Kingman, and Harlan of Weaubleau, Mo.; and three sisters; Mrs. Mike (Dorothy) Cancanzaro of Sun City, Ariz., and Mrs. John (Zelma) DeWeese and Mrs. Maynard (Viola) Harner, both of Kingman, Mo.
