George Hall Obituary
Mr. George Hall was born at Eagleville, Missouri, February 1, 1870. There he grew to manhood, and laid the foundation of an industrial life. The beginning of his industrial life was the close of his high school training. At first he became a printer, feeling that he would be able to distribute his influence more satisfactorily to the sustaining of the real idea of highest citizenship of which he was capable through the press. He began early in life to equip himself with a knowledge of the printing business.
In 1896 he caught a vision of the larger opportunities in northern Iowa, and in that year he migrated to the north. On reaching Goodell he was so taken with the location and the surroundings that he settled in our little village as a spot upon which he desired to build. Here he absorbed the life and spirit of the community, here he began to diffuse his influence. He knew that the community life would be no higher than the individual life, and he knew the only way to dispel from among us crime, debauchery and drunkenness was for the individual life to be lived above the plane upon which these things revel. So I think Brother George tried to do.
His life was not entirely free from mistakes common to man, and we all suffer because of our mistakes.
In the year 1899 on the 26th day of July he was married to Miss Bertha Clark of Goodell, Iowa. There they made their home for a number of years. During this time they served that community as editor and postmaster. About six years ago they moved to Charles City, Iowa. Where he was employed as a salesman for the Charles City Monument Company.
Thus brother George lived and hustled for many years, or until March 18, 1925 when he drifted away from his home into unconsciousness which resulted in the sleep from which he will never wake until God's angel shall come with the sound of a mighty trumpet, and all shall awake - those that have done good to eternal life and that have done evil to condemnation.
At the time of his demise brother George was 55 years one month and 17 days old. He leaves a wife and other relatives and a host of friends among whom he will be missed. I am wondering at this time who will be called next to go from us.
Funeral services were held from the U.B. Church at Goodell, March 20 at 2:30 P.M., Rev D. Winfield Thompson, pastor of the church officiating. Interment in Goodell Cemetery east of town.
