Car crash fatal to Klemme man

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 6, at the Klemme Methodist church for Lyle Green with Rev. Melvin Miller officiating. Mr. Green, 34, who farmed southeast of Klemme, died late Wednesday afternoon at the Belmond Community Hospital from injuries received in a one car auto crash Tuesday. Comfort in music was provided by Mrs. Marvin Lemke and Mrs. Roy Arnold accompanied by Mrs. Robert Schulz at the organ. Mrs. Marvin Meints and Mrs. Paul Halfpop were in charge of the flowers. Elmer Larson and Edwin Josten were ushers and Albert Krantz, Donald Dunfee, Earl Bachman, Sumner Fuller, Laverne Schroeder and Donald May were casket bearers. Military rites were conducted at the Evergreen Cemetery at Britt by the Goodell American Legion combined with the Adams-Schaefer Legion Post of Klemme.

Lyle Edward Green, son of Edward and Reka Green of Klemme, was born January 16, 1926 near Corwith. He attended the Corwith school and on June 6, 1943, was united in marriage to Viola Gayken of Britt. The couple established their home at Corwith where they resided until his entry into the United States Army during World War II. He received his basic training in Alabama and later was sent to Louisiana and attended a non-commissioned officer's rank. He served as a training officer with the 114th Training Co. at Camp Belvadier, Virginia. Following his discharge from the Army, he and his wife re-established their home at Corwith, later moving to a farm midway between Klemme and Goodell.

Mr. Green took an active interest in the community. He was a member of the American Legion, served on the Board of Review of the Boy Scouts and the county selection board. In addition to his farming operations, he was employed as a salesman by the Storck Chevrolet Company at Britt.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, five sons and three daughters, Richard 15; Marvin 13; Keith 11; Calvin 10; Vicky Lynn 8; Pamela 6; Perry 5 and Karen 5 1/2 months, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Green, Klemme; five brothers, Wilbur, Klemme; Robert, LaHabra, California; Harold, Corwith; Delbert, Buffalo, New York and Wallace, Klemme; his grandfather, John Hippen, Kanawha and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry, who died in infancy, his grandmother, Mrs. John Hippen and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Green.

Lyle Green Dies Of Crash Injuries At Age 34 Years

Lyle Green, 34, who farmed northeast of Goodell, died a week ago Wednesday at Belmond Community hospital from injuries he received Tuesday evening of last week in a one car accident.

He had made some purchases at the Goodell Grocery and was hurrying home because he was scheduled to truck a load of livestock to Waterloo as a relief driver Tuesday night. Investigating officers believed his right rear tire had blown out as he approached or was in the process of turning the corner just west of Amsterdam cemetery to the east of Goodell.

Funeral held at Klemme

His car rolled into the deep ditch at the east. Mr. Green was rushed to the hospital as soon as the accident was discovered but never regained consciousness. The wrecked car was not found until two or more hours after the accident.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Methodist church in Klemme and the Goodell and Klemme Legion Posts conducted military rites in conjunction with the burial at Evergreen cemetery, Britt.
