Iris Trumbell Foster

Iris Adeline Trumbell was born in Hancock county, Iowa Jan. 15, 1898, the daughter of Charles and Alpha Trumbell. After the death of their mother 1902, she and her sister Fern made their home with their parental grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Trumbell.

Iris graduated from Belmond High school and taught for several years in the rural school of Iowa and in North Dakota. At Belmond on August 8, 1926, she was married to Floyd Wright Foster. Two sons were born to them, George Eldon and Lloyd LeRoy.

Most of Mrs. Foster's married life was spent in Kanawha, where she was known and admired for her loyalty to her family and friends. After her husbands death on Sept. 14, 1950, she took over the work as bookkeeper for the Yeakel garage, Kanawha, a position she held until illness compelled her to give it up at the beginning of this year. She passed away at the Belmond Community hospital Friday evening May 20, 1955.

She is survived by her sons, both of whom are serving in active duty in the Navy; two sisters, Fern D. Courter of Palo Alto, Calif., and Wilma E. Trumbell of Ellensburg, Wash.; a brother, Charles C. Trumbell of Minden, Nev.; and many other relatives.

Iris Foster was active in several community organizations and had held office in both the Rebecca lodge and VFW Auxiliary. She had been a member if the Methodist church since her girlhood in Belmond.

Faithfulness to duty at any personal sacrifice was always Iris' goal. To those who were with her during the last months of her illness she left the inspiration of courage and a fine philosophy of life.
