Clair Finn

Funeral services for Clair Finn, 74, of Garner, who died Sunday, Oct. 23, 1994 at North Iowa Mercy Healthcare Center in Mason City, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with the Rev. John W. Hemann as celebrant. Rev. Chris Thurow will be the lector. Carolyn Kumsher, organist, will accompany the church choir. Special music will be provided by soloist, Loren Kalkwarf; and by Mary Tendall and Margaret Jass as a piano-organ duet.

Casket bearers will be Tom Finn, John Finn, Dan Finn, Landry Smallfoot, Lambert Smallfoot and David Riedel. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Clair Vincent Finn, the son of James and Ida (Jacobs) Finn, was born January 24, 1920 on a farm near Belmond. After graduating from Belmond High School in 1937, he attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. During W.W. II, he was located at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tininan. In August of 1944, he married Irene Margaret Coenen in California. After the service they lived in Defiance, IA, and then later moved to Belmond, where they farmed. In 1954, while living in Goodell, Clair worked at the Belmond Post Office until he retired in 1980.

His wife, Irene, died in 1972. On June 8, 1973, he married Marjorie Greiman Smallfoot at Zion United Church of Christ in Garner. They lived on a farm east of Garner.

Clair was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, he served on the St. Boniface parish board, Prairie View apartments board and belonged to the Garner American Legion, V.F.W. and Garner Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Finn; his parents; and two brothers, Francis Finn and Merlin Finn.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Finn of Garner; his children and spouses, Kathryn and Richard Kenyon of Myersville, MD, Jeanne and Larry Bonde of Camanche, Thomas and Jenny Finn of Jacksonville, FL., Barbara and David Riedel of Rowan, Colleen and Allen Osborne of Galt, John and Cory Finn of Sunnyvale, CA., and Daniel and Sara of Boone; six step-grandchildren, Landry and Rebecca Smallfoot of Spokane, WA., Christine Smallfoot of Mason City, Holly Rasmussen of Garner, Lambert Smallfoot and special friend, Leslie Way, both of Des Moines, Dawn Smallfoot of Garner and Gail and Kevin Kuhlman of Garner, 24 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Peggy and Ervin Halverson of Dows, and Lenore Deml of River Falls, WI.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Marilyn Finn of Carlisle, PA., Orland and Mary Finn of Dell Rapids, SD., Richard and Erlene Finn of Austin, MN., and Roger and Mary Finn of Boise, ID.; and a sister-in-law, Voral Schluter of Belmond.
