Dena Farrington, 92, of Garner dies

Services for Mrs. Dena Farrington, 92, of Garner who died Saturday at her daughter's home in Garner were held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner with Rev. Jerry Wolcott of the United Methodist Church as officiant.

Mrs. Dean Cataldo served as both organist and soloist. Casket bearers were: Gordon Ziegler, Daniel Garman, Bradly Revland, Thomas Revland, Scott Johnson, and Orrie Johnson. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery at Garner.

Mrs. Dena Helena Farrington, the daughter of Wert and Susie Gerdes was born September 10, 1892 at German Valley, Ill. After her marriage to Gerhardt Harmdierks in Illinois they moved to South Dakota and then to the Garner area where Gerhardt worked as a farm laborer. Mr. Harmdierks died in 1945. In 1960 she was married to Steven Farrington at Albert Lea, Minn. He died in 1968. Since 1970 Mrs. Farrington had lived with her daughter, Gertrude, in Garner.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Revland of Garner and Mrs. Maurice (Susie) O'Hern of Britt; her son Arthur Harmdierks and his wife, Mary, of Preston, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Susie Stensrud of Albert Lea, Minn. and a brother, Harm Gerdes and his wife, Sarah, of Watertown, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Gerhardt Harmdierks, and Steven Farrington; her son Gerhardt Harmdierks Jr.; her parents; her two brothers, George Gerdes and Onnie Gerdes; her two sisters, Mrs. Annie Sterret and Mrs. Hilda Brunken.
