Fred Etchen, 89
The funeral for Fred Etchen, who died Wednesday, Dec 29 at Belmond Community Hospital, was held Monday, Jan 3 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Klemme.
The Rev. Julius Rechtermann conducted the service. Mrs. Gordon Beier was organist. Other music was provided by a double duet of Mrs. Darwin Wille, Mrs. Leland Hummel, Mrs. Leonard Kaduce and Mrs. Louella Yakel. Interment was at Ell Township Cemetery. Casket bearers were Winton Etchen, Delbert Etchen, Elwyn Etchen, Leon Lemke, Glenn Lemke and Virgil Schlawin. Funeral arrangements were made by Tenold Funeral Home.
Fred Etchen was born April 19, 1893 to John and Elizabeth Etchen near Goodell. He served in World War I from July 24, 1918 to January 10, 1919.
He was married to Hulda Greiman Nov. 28, 1923 and they farmed in the Klemme area. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1973. They retired to Klemme.
He died after reaching the age of 89 years, eight months and 10 days.
Survivors include his wife, Hulda; a sister, Mrs. Fred (Rose) Bell of Klemme; a brother, Albert Etchen of Klemme and several nieces and nephew.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Louis and John and a sister, Lillie Brooks.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Klemme and the American Legion of Klemme.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3, 1983 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Klemme , for Fred Etchen, 89, who died at Belmond Community Hospital on December 29. Rev. Julius Rechtermann officiated. Burial was in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Tenold Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Fred, the son of John and Elizabeth Eichmeyer Etchen, was born on April 19, 1893 near Goodell. He served in World War I from July 24, 1918 until January 10, 1919.
He was united in marriage to Hulda Greiman on Nov. 28, 1923 and they farmed in the Klemme area. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1973. They retired to Klemme several years ago.
Fred was a member of the United Church of Christ and the American Legion in Klemme.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Louis and John and a sister, Lillie Brooks.
Surviving are his wife, Hulda; one sister, Rose (Mrs. Fred Bell) of Klemme; one brother, Albert Etchen of Klemme and nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers were Winton Etchen, Delbert Etchen, Elwyn Etchen, Leon Lemke, Glenn Lemke and Virgil Schlawin.
