ESTLE, DEFRANCE, CLEMENS, WOLFE

Mrs. Susan C. DeFrance Estle was born June 17, 1863 on a farm in Jefferson County Iowa, the 7th of a family of eight children born to her parents, James and Susan Clemens DeFrance, natives of Pennsylvania. She spent her childhood days near Fairfield and later the family moved to Hedrick where she was baptized and became a member of the Christian Church, later transferring her membership to the United Brethren Church at Goodell where she was a faithful and active member as long as her health permitted.

On July 23, 1884, at the age of 21, Susan DeFrance was married to Roland Estle at Toledo. Six children were born to this union, five sons and one daughter. The family moved to Goodell in 1918. She was a willing and happy worker in her home and therefore was beloved by her family. She was most neighborly person and hence had many friends.

The household was saddened in 1933 when Mr. Estle passed away at the age of 75 years. Mrs. Estle suffered a paralytic stroke in 1929 and since then had been an invalid. Her faithful son, Clifford has been housekeeper and nurse to his mother for the past 12 years. She was a patient suffer and seldom complained. Her release came on the night of July 4th, when she passed away quietly at the age of 82 years.

She leaves to mourn her son, Herbert of Modesto, California, Mrs. Laura Wolfe of Hampton, Clifford of Goodell, Fred of Jefferson, Wis., John of San Francisco, Calif., and Donnell of Mason City, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the United Brethren Church with the Rev. Carleton Spencer officiating. Mrs. Russel Bell sang two duets with Arthur Savogue accompanying. Pallbearers were Messers. Gus Okreug, O. Sandburg, W. F. Beier, Walter Mason, Charles Conklin and Chris Deiger. Burial was in the Amsterdam Cemetery.

Out of town folks attending were Fred Estle and Clark of Jefferson, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe of Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Wolfe of Ackley, Mrs. Harry Rocholt of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Yohn of Alden, Mrs. Carl Hartshorn of Fenton, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Winters, Henry Mitchell of Lakota, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Estle of Ledyard, Mr. and Mrs. Donnell Estle of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Dominy of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Willys Knisley and Katheryn Moorhead of Rockwell, Mrs. Henry Jost of Klemme, Mrs. John Bleeker, Mrs. Mabel Busick, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bachman and Vera Gaffri of Belmond.
