Mrs. Ira Derr Dies At Brother's Home Thursday, March 12
Funeral Services Held Sunday Afternoon At First Methodist Church Here
Twenty four hours after suffering a stroke at the home of her brother, Ernest Braund, Mrs. Ira Derr passed away late Thursday night, March 12. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist Episcopal church in Garner.
Mrs. Derr, who had spent most of her 43 years of wedded life around Garner, had been in failing health for some time, and had spent much time at the home of her brother east of Garner in recent weeks.
Inez Louise Braund was born December 24, 1874, at Lisbon, Wis. She was united in marriage with Ira Derr on October 21, 1893, in Garner. With the exception of a few years spent in southern Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Derr spent almost their entire life together in Garner, and it was here that three daughters and one son were raised to adulthood.
These children, who with their father, survive, are Mrs. Mabel Hernon, Garner; Mrs. Calvin Willford, Plymouth; Mrs. Earl Knudsson, Mason City; and Ray Derr, Omaha, Neb.
Other survivors are three brothers, Ernest, east of Garner; Guy, Clear Lake; John, Williams; two sisters, Mrs. William Lau of Garner and Mrs. Maude Nesbitt of Glenville, Minn.; also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were in charge of the Rev. T. Ernest Hoon, pastor of the Methodist church. Mrs. Derr herself was a faithful member of the Congregational church of Garner.
The large attendance at the funeral served as a reminder of the high regard in which Mrs. Derr was held by neighbors and friends as well as relatives.
Interment was at Concord cemetery south of Garner.
