Mrs. C. Deiger Dies at Goodell

Goodell - Our community again mourned the loss of a lifelong resident when death claimed the life of Mrs. Chris Deiger early Wednesday morning at the age of 59.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Walter Boller home and from the Goodell Evangelical United Brethren church, where Mrs. Deiger was a faithful attendant when in good health.

Two weeks ago, she was forced to remain in bed, and her doctors pronounced her case as Parkinson's disease, a form of paralysis, which in the end affected her throat. All that loving hands could do for her was done by her family and friends, but death came at 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Officiating at funeral services was the Rev. James T. Stewart, pastor of the E & UB church. Music was furnished by a male quartet of J. J. Cook, Harold Cunningham, Amos Hanson and V. E. Harris, with Marilyn McNutt accompanying at the piano.

Serving as pallbearers were Joseph Burgess, Orville Mahn, Ernie Kurtz, Paul Veldhouse, Paul Halfpop and Carl Green. Burial took place in Amsterdam cemetery.

Blanch Africa, daughter and youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Africa, was born Nov. 11, 1890, at Goodell. She attended the local school and grew to womanhood here. In May 1912, she was united in marriage to John Clark of Chicago. They took up there home in Goodell and to this union was born one daughter, Frae Alice. Mr. Reed passed away in 1920.

On Feb. 7, 1926, Blanche was married to Chris Deiger of Goodell and they made their home on the Deiger farm east of town until retirement. Mr. Deiger preceded her in death in 1946.

Mrs. Deiger had been in failing health for the past eight years, but she was able to continue to live in her own home alone until March of this year when her health failed rapidly. She sold her home and moved to the home of her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Boller.

She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Mrs. Boller; her granddaughter, Barbara Boller of Goodell; three sisters - Mrs. Laura Brooks of Sheldon, Mrs. Eva McElfree of Sergeant Bluff, and Mrs. Minnie Savogue of Goodell; four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Out-of-town folks attending funeral services were Mrs. Deiger's brother-in-law, Ray Wood of Marshalltown; her nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Savogue of Chicago, and her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Green of Sheldon.

The esteem with which she was held in our community was manifested by the flowers and many gifts given in her memory.
