Alvin A. Meyer was born October 15, 1933, in Liberty Township to Herman C. and Ethel M. (Schoenwetter) Meyer. He graduated from Klemme High School in 1951. Alvin received vocational training in radio and television from DeVry Technical School of Electronics through 6 weeks of home correspondence and 6 months of residence training in Chicago. Upon graduation he worked as a radio/tv service man in Klemme and later in Forest City area, until he entered the U.S. Army in February 1955. After serving 2 years on active duty in the signal corps at Ft. Huachuca, AZ., Alvin returned to his former employment. He later moved back to the home farm and combined farming with TV repair at Kanawha. In 1959 he bought a television business which he operated as Al's radio and TV until 1975 when he sold the business and began farming full time until his death.
His lifetime love for radio was demonstrated by his membership in several amateur radio clubs, among which are the Pilot Knob Amateur Radio Service Club, the Forest City Amateur Radio Club and Mason City Amateur Radio Club. Alvin had been active in several civic clubs including, the Lion's Club of Kanawha, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel M. Meyer; two sisters, Mrs. Billy (Lorraine) Buckley of Forest City; Mrs. Dennis (Jean) Hansen of Hartford, AL; 1 brother, Herman Richard Meyer of Cedar Rapids; 8 nieces, 3 nephews, 4 great-nieces, 3 great-nephews, and many other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his father Herman Carl Meyer, 1 niece Debbie Sue Meyer.
