Verle "Bub" Keraus
1916-2000

Verle "Bub" Keraus, 84, of Garner died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 16 at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Kallem officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Karen Pedersen who accompanied vocalists, Tom and Bill Renner. Ushers were Norman Henschen, Harlan Carolus and Harlen Haberkamp.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery. Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Brad Henderson, Todd Henderson, Matt Keraus, Kyle Keraus, Matt Farup, Craig McGuigan, Don Hopple and Gary Schisel.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the American Cancer Society.

Verle William Keraus, the son of William and Lola (Kluckhohn) Keraus, was born Nov. 18, 1916 at Klemme. He attended school at Klemme where he graduated from high school in 1934.

Mr. Keraus joined the C.C.C. and worked at Bedford, Council Bluffs and at Forest City where he helped construct the tower at Pilot Knob State Park. He then worked at Swea City for five years as the assistant manager of the Northern Lumber Company.

On May 20, 1941, he married Elaine Martha Buntenbach at the United Church of Christ in Klemme, The couple made their home in Garner where Mr. Keraus was employed by the Garner Livestock Auction Company until retiring in 1976.

Bub and Elaine spent the winter months at their home in Naples, Fla. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and fishing, especially in the Golf of Mexico with his friends.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, served on the board of trustees and was a former member of the Garner Rotary Club.

Mr. Keraus is survived by his wife, Elaine of Garner; three children, Michael Keraus and his wife, Susie, of Boone, Kay Henderson and her husband Dale, of Plano, Texas, and Lynn Keraus and his wife, Gail, of Garner; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Otho Keraus.
