Mrs. Geo. Hammill Dies

Mrs. George Hammill, mention of whose serious illness was made last week , passed away last Thursday. Her last illness was of but a few days duration and came as a severe shock to the family and the many friends. Mrs. Hammill had resided in Britt twenty six years. She was a quiet woman and thought more of her home than any place. However, she had gained a large acquaintance and had many very dear friends. The community has mourned since her death.

Mary Brewer Hammill was born in Cornwall, England, Sept. 20, 1849. Came to Linden, Wisconsin in October, 1851, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Brewer. Was married to Geo. Hammill, Dec. 30, 1871. To this union was born four children, Mrs. C. D. Welty, of Britt, Iowa, John Hammill, Britt, Iowa, Geo Hammill, Jr. Britt, Iowa and Abe Hammill, deceased.

She moved with her husband to Hancock County, Iowa in 1889, where she resided until the time of her death, Aug. 5, 1915. She leaves besides her husband and three children, two brothers and five sisters, also one grandson, Vivian Welty, of Britt, Iowa.

Funeral services were held from the M. E. church Sunday afternoon. A very large crowd was in attendance and a long procession followed the remains to the place where they are at rest. Rev. W. W. Turell preached a fine sermon. The floral display was beautiful.

Mrs. Hammill had been for many years a member of the Methodist church. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge.

The following relatives from out of town were at the funeral: Mr. Henry Brewer, a brother, of Hudson, Wis., Mrs. Grant Batton, a sister, of Linden, Wis, Mrs. Wm. Liddicoat, a sister, of Linden, Wis., Mrs. Henry Gruber, a sister, of Mifflin, Wis. and Mrs. Carrie Webber of Belvidere, Ill., a sister of Mr. Hammill.

"No one hears the door that opens, When they pass beyond our call, Soft as loosened leaves of roses, One by one our loved ones fall."
