Duane Christians Rites Held Wednesday

Service for Duane E. Christians, 52, of rural Garner, who died Sunday at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7th, at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme with Rev. James A. Laak officiating. Mrs. Harley Nuehring, organist, accompanied Bill and Tom Renner who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Users were Darwin Wille, Herb Greiman, Jr. and Lyle Goll. Casket bearers were: Harold Myrton, John Buren, Keith Christians, Louis Jergemeyer, Marvin Barz and Bill Neuberger, Jr. Burial was in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Duane Eugene Christians, the son of John and Christina (Ennenga) Christians, was born April 23, 1926 on the home farm place. He attended school at Klemme until he was 16, when he took over the operation of the family farm. February 3, 1948, he married Iona Wernet of Nora Springs at Klemme. They had continued farming until his death. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Klemme and was on the Sunday School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Iona; his children Gregory and his wife Cheryl of Waterloo, Mrs. Gregory (Patricia) Scott of Waterloo, Mark, Beth and Charles all at home; 1 grandchild, Sara Christians; 2 brothers, John of Denver, Colorado, Harold of Garner; 5 sisters, Mrs. William (Emma) Neuberger, Sr. of Klemme, Mrs. Lloyd (Anna) Smith of Hines, Minnesota, Mrs. Arthur (Etta) Tibbits of Ventura, Mrs. LuVerne (Sena) Christensen of Ventura and Mrs. Bill (Elsie) Wilson of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by a son, Randall in June of 1971; his parents; a sister, Mrs. Grace Merkle and 4 brothers, Karjens, Edward, Pete and Harm.
