James M. Elder, of Garner, one of the grandest men of Iowa, died in his home in that place, last Wednesday, in his sixty-fifth year. He had from his early manhood been a man of the people; a few years ago having been the democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor. If “an honest man is the noblest work of God,” then J. M. Elder was one of God’s noblemen.
