Native of Germany, Mrs. Brummond Was North Iowa Pioneer
Corwith
Mrs. Albertine Brummond, 83, widow of the late Ernest F. Brummond, one of the first merchants in Corwith, died at her home Saturday following a long illness.
A native of Germany, she came to America at age 13 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Brummond were among the first residents of Corwith 60 years ago when he opened a coal business later adding a mercantile store which they operated until 1898 when Mr. Brummond was elected Hancock County Auditor and they moved to Garner. A son, Ernest, of Corwith and two brothers, Charles H. Hartwig of near Kanawha, and Ferdinand Hartwig of Cedar Falls, survive. Two brothers, August of Devil’s Lake, Minn., and Albert, of Centuria, Wis., died within two days of each other last winter. Mrs. Brummond was a member of the Evangelical Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Brummond were held at the home, Monday at 2 o’clock, the Rev. Albert Rust, pastor of the first Baptist Church, officiating. The Rev. Mr. Rust and J. A. Zweifel sang. Burial was made in the Kanawha Cemetery.
