Hans Halverson Dies Yesterday

Funeral Services Will be Held Wednesday in Ellington Prairie church.

Hans Halverson died yesterday morning at 2 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Soderblom in this city at the age of 80 years. Mr. Halverson has been in failing health for the last two years but had not been seriously ill. He died suddenly from heart disease.

The body will be taken to Garner and brief funeral services will be conducted at the old homestead in Garner. The rites will be held at 2:30 o’clock in the Ellington Prairie church, located about six miles from Garner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Norway

Hans Halverson, son of Peter and Martha Halverson, was born in Norway, Jan. 10, 1848 and when a small child he came to America with his parents. At the age of 14 years he came to Clayton county and about the year of 1880, he came to Hancock county. Farming has always been his occupation until he retired in 1908.

In 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Halverson and to this union three children were born of whom two survive. He was converted at an early age to the Norway Lutheran church and had been a faithful member.

Survivors

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. E. Soderblom of Newton and one son, A. C. Halverson of Garner. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Curtis and Alvin Halverson of Garner, two brothers, Anderson Halverson of Jasper, Minn., and P. O. Halverson of Clear Lake, Ia., and one sister, Mrs. John C. Halverson of Miller, Ia. His wife died in April 1925 and his son, C. A. Halverson died in June 1927. Three sisters also preceded him in death.

On March 1, 1928, he came to Newton to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Soderblom. He had been a pioneer resident of Hancock county.

A. C. Halverson, Mrs. C. E. Halverson both of Garner and P. O. Halverson of Clear Lake, Ia., have arrived in Newton and they, in company with Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Soderblom of Newton will return to Garner with the body for the funeral services.
