Services at Corwith for 'Uncle' Ben Major, 87

OWNED FARMS BUT LEFT NO DIRECT HEIRS

CORWITH, Feb. 24 - Funeral services for Ben Major, 87, resident of Corwith for more than 46 years, were held at the Methodist church February 16, with the pastor, the Rev. A. J. Barkley, in charge.

Mr. Major was born near Eureka, Ill., and at 23 married Sara Cotton. Her death in 1937 came in their 58th year of married life.

Mr. Major was always interested in blooded livestock, and he owned several farms in this locality. For twenty years he served as a member of the town council.

'Uncle Ben' and 'Aunt Sally' as the Majors were known, never had any children. Closest surviving relatives are two nephews, C. W. Major, Panola, Ill., Guy Wright, Washington, Ill., and a niece, Mrs. Eva Pinkham, El Paso, Ill.

Music for the funeral services was supplied by Mesdames J. W. Miller, Willian Wood, and William Perkins, and Messrs. H. V. Cladwell, and George Gaskill, with Lucille Miller at the piano. Pallbearers were Clarence Smith,Wlater Kirchgatter, Jean Foley, and Ernest Lester, Ray Bonnstetter. Interment at the Corwith cemetery was in charge of the Ellsworth mortuary.

Among persons from a distance at the funeral were Mrs. F. C. Heberlein, Britt, and Harry and Chloa Watterson, Lohrville; Mrs. H. C. Sanders, Audubon, and son Lyle; Mrs. H. Winter, Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Williams, of Britt; Mr. and Mrs. Crosset, Forest City; Mrs. Kripling and her daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Maher, both of Fort Dodge.
