1932-1988

Services for Charles W. Johns, 56, Marshalltown, who died Friday, Sept. 30, 1988 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, were held Monday, Oct. 3, 1:30 p.m. at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt with Rev. J. Larry Vallery officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Ruby Hodson, and soloist, Cindy Schubert.

Casket bearers were Danny Buckman, Terry Buckman, Larry Buckman, David Bravick, Garnet Johns and Don Newton.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles William Johns, the son of Ben and Louisa Hubbard Johns, was born March 10, 1932 in Britt. He attended rural school in Erin Township, graduating from the Britt Public School. He also attended the University of Iowa.

He entered the Air Corp in 1952 serving with the Ninth Bomber Squadron during the Korean War. Part of his tour was spent in Japan. In 1956, he received his honorable discharge. He was associated with the Credit Bureau of Marshalltown for several years. He had worked as a depot agent for the Milwaukee Railroad serving several areas in northeastern Iowa.

Charles had been in failing health for the past five years and death was the result of cancer. He was a resident of the Iowa Vet's Home in Marshalltown for the past two years.

He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

He is survived by two sons, Alan, Ontario, CA, and Keith, Indio, CA; one daughter, Kathy, Bassett; one granddaughter, Amber Johns; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Buckman, Nora Springs, and Mrs. Jeanette Bravick, Britt; one sister-in-law, Doris Johns, Luverne; eight step sisters; one step brother; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother.
