George L. Smidt

BRITT - George L. Smidt, 72, of rural Britt, died Sunday (April 13, 1986) at his farm home southeast of Britt.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Bert Den Herder officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, with a flag folding ceremony by the Britt American Legion Post.

He was born Dec. 4, 1913 at the family homestead near Britt, the son of Ludwig and Lena (Heerkes) Smidt. He attended rural country school and farmed with his parents until 1942 when he entered the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to farm the family farm near Britt.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church at Kanawha and a member of the Britt American Legion Post.

Visitation will be after noon today at the Carter Ewing Funeral Home, Kanawha.

Survivors include one sister, Annie Smidt, Britt; and two brothers, Anton of Kanawha and Louie, Britt.
