Mrs. Henry Smidt
BRITT - Mrs. Henry (Emily) Smidt, 89, died Wednesday night at her farm home southeast of Mason City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Boughton Funeral Home in Britt. The Rev. Bernard A. Rust will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
The daughter of Ole and Alice Bruse Heerkes, she was born Sept. 10, 1882 in Germany. She came to this country when a child and lived in Freeport, Ill., later moving to Dumont. She was married to Henry Smidt Aug. 10, 1901 in Dumont.
They farmed in the Britt area until 1942 when they moved to the farm near Mason City. He died June 21, 1944. Two sons, two daughters and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are five sons, Ole and Henry Jr., both of Britt; Louis, Ben and George, all of Mason City; six daughters, Mrs. William (Anna) Cook, Britt; Mrs. Emily Block, Mason City; Miss Helen Smidt, Mason City; Mrs. Louis (Lena) Brady, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Ivan (Geraldine) Pitkin, Clear Lake; Mrs. Tom (Janelle) Gourley, Mason City; 30 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two brothers, Ben Heerkes, Britt; Edward Heerkes, Waterloo; five sisters, Mrs. Alice Freeland, Vallejo, Calif.; Mrs. Clara Crooks, Dumont; Mrs. Harm (Ida) Freerks, Dumont; Mrs. Leo (Annie) Brocka, Parkersburg; Mrs. Jennie Dohlman, Buffalo Center.
