Young Mother Dies at Corwith; Rites Saturday
Corwith - The Corwith community was saddened Tuesday night by the untimely death of Mrs. Darrell D. Stockwell, who died following the birth of a stillborn son. Her death occurred at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge late Tuesday night, August 2. She had reached the age of 31 years, 8 months and 24 days.
Mrs. Stockwell, the former Elma Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jackson, of the Kanawha community, was born at Kanawha, November 8, 1923, and grew to womanhood in that vicinity where she attended the public schools.
On August 22, 1939, at Emmetsburg, Iowa, she was untied in marriage to Darrell D. Stockwell. To that union five children were born: Karen, 15; Kenneth, 7; the twins, Ronnie and Connie, 5; and the infant son.
Mr. and Mrs. Stockwell established their first home at Meservey, Iowa, later moving to a farm near Corwith, where they have since farmed.
Mrs. Stockwell was a member of the Corwith Lutheran Church, the Mission Circle, and the Royal Neighbors of Corwith.
Surviving the death of this young mother are the husband; four children; her mother, Mrs. Minnie Jackson, of Kanawha; one brother, James Jackson, Yakima, Wash.; five sisters: Mrs. Joe (Caroline) Meyer, Kanawha; Mrs. Wm. (Mary) Meyer, Percy, Ill.; Mrs. Wm. (Lela) Sloter, Corwith; Mrs. Herman (Lula) Leerar, Britt; and Mrs. Alvin Bachman, Garner, and also many other relatives.
Preceding her in death were her infant son; her father; one brother, Carl; and a sister, Mabel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the St. John's Lutheran Church at Corwith preceded by a prayer service for the immediate family at the Stockwell home. The Rev. Clarence Brower will officiate. Interment will be made in the Kanawha Cemetery.
