Abbie Tierney dies at Garner Rites pending
Garner - Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Bohn Funeral Home here for Mrs. J. E. (Abbie Lucille) Tierney, 83. She died Tuesday at her home here after a short illness.
The daughter of John C. and Theodosia Calhoun, she was born Nov. 11, 1878, at Fertile. She was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was the widow of J. E. (Ted) Tierney, former editor and publisher of the Garner Leader.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roy (Bera) Igou, Mason City, longtime member of the composing room staff of the Mason City Globe-Gazette; Mrs. Evelyn Burgess and Mrs. Theodora Gillin, both of Los Angeles; two grand-daughters, and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Cosond, Artesia, N. M.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Max, two brothers and a sister.

Garner services Thursday for Abbie Tierney
Garner - Funeral services for Mrs. Abbie Tierney were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bohn Funeral Home in Garner. Mrs. Vera Yelland, past reader of the Christian Science Church, Mason City, conducted the service.
Burial was in Concord Cemetery at Garner. Mrs. Tierney died at her home here Tuesday afternoon.
