Mrs. Vera Nerem rites held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Nerem of Forest City were held Saturday afternoon at Calvary Baptist church. The Rev. Richard Houg, former pastor now serving First Baptist church of Eldora, officiated.

Richard Johnson and Dwight Winkleman sang a duet and Mrs. Ralph Johnson was organist. Casket bearers were Daniel Buffington, William Durrell, David Schuler, Bradley Nerem, David Nerem and John Nerem. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nerem, 83, suffered a stroke at her home last Thursday [28 Aug 1980] morning and died a few hours later at the Forest City community hospital.

Born Jan. 14, 1897, south of Forest City in Madison township, Vera Nerem was the daughter of Leonard and Florence Steiff. She attended rural school in Madison township, graduated from Forest City high school in 1915 and received her teaching certificate in 1916. Mrs. Nerem then returned to this area to teach in rural
schools.

She married Ole Nerem on May 2, 1923, at the Baptist parsonage in Albert Lea, Minn. The couple lived in Albert Lea until Mr. Nerem's death on Jan. 24, 1942. Mrs. Nerem then returned to Forest City and for many years worked in the former Lynn's Department Store as a clerk and department head. She retired in 1962.

Mrs. Nerem was a member of Calvary Baptist church, the Mission circle of the church and the Madison Township Birthday club.

Survivors include her two sons, Dean Nerem of Indianola and Keith Nerem of Worthington, Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. Marlyn (Jane) Buffington of St. Charles, Mo.; a sister, Mrs Harold (Emma) Boman of Forest City; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, a brother, Guy, and a sister, Loi Willhour.
