Albert Lundberg, 89, long-time Scout leader died Oct. 21
Lifelong resident of the Forest City community, Albert Lundberg, died early Saturday [21 Oct1967] at his farm home following a lingering illness. He was 89 years old.
Although a busy farmer, Mr. Lundberg took time to devote to many civic activities. He was a school director for Madison township School No. 1 for a number of terms and served more than 20 years as a township trustee which included maintaining the burial records plus the supervision and upkeep of Madison township cemetery. He was secretary for the Madison rural fire department.
His principal civic interest was centered in the youth of the community whom he served through the boy Scouts. He was active in the Boy Scout organization in Forest City for 22 years serving as the assistant scoutmaster and then for 18 years as Scoutmaster of Forest City Troop 18. His son continues the family interest in scouting and now is Scoutmaster of the troop.
In 1943 Mr. Lundberg was awarded the Silver Beaver badge, the highest honor the Boy Scouts award.
He was a great nature lover and kept one acre of his farm as virgin prairie.
He was the son of James and Marie Lundberg and was born Sept. 28, 1878, in the small cabin home of his parents located where the Forest City sales barn now stands. The next year his father bought a 40 acre farm in Madison township just southeast of Forest City and built a home on the farm.
Mr. Lundberg attended Madison Township School No. 1 and then high school in Forest City. In 1899 he taught Mt. Valley No. 5 school, being the first male teacher in that school.
He married Lillie Jeanette Lorentzen June 30, 1909. They moved into a new house on the family farm which Mr. Lundberg built with the assistance of his brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Lundberg lived in the home for 58 years. They were parents of five children.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Elmer George Lundberg of Osage and Milo Albert Lundberg of Forest City; two daughters, Laura Murth Priem of Lyle, Minn. and Leora Mary Smith of Denver, Colo. and four grandchildren, James and Jeanne Lundberg of Osage, Catherine and Raymond Lundberg of Forest City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Myrth Alberta, who died in infancy; five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Olson Funeral home with the Rev. Max E. Goldman officiating. Mrs. Roy E. Olson was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Russell Lewis, organist.
Casket bearers were men who had been Boy Scouts during the years Mr. Lundberg was Scoutmaster; Donald R. Anderson, Iven Norstrud, Burt Anderson, John C. Thompson, Phillip Hansen and Arthur R. Totten. Interment was in the Madison Township cemetery.
