Deceased was generally know in this community as “Ed” Woiwod, a fact we mention here for the reason that some might not identify him properly by his full given name.
Not may of our people were aware of the fact that Ed was in the hospital or that he was suffering from an ailment which might prove fatal, consequently, news of his death was a distinct shock. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Woiwod Sr., on of the old and highly respected German couples of this community. He was born on the original Woiwod farm about four miles north and east of Garner. Her remained with his parents and grew to manhood’s estate upon the home farm. He was educated in the rural schools of Concord township and at St. John’s parochial school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, the creed of his parents.
For several years Ed’s health was not the best and one year ago he retired from farm work. He and his youngest brother Alfred, operated the home farm together after his parent had moved to Ventura to make their home. About six months ago, Ed decided upon taking a business course and entered Hamilton’s business college in Mason City. He was pursuing this course when attacked by appendicitis, and thus is briefly reviewed the earthly stay of Ed Woiwod a splendid young man – a dutiful son.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Woiwod Sr., Ventura; six brothers and two sisters. The sisters are: Mrs. Louis Grell, southeast of Garner, and Mrs. Edw. Bohn of Ventura; the brothers: Frank, Great Falls, Mont.; William, Detroit, Mich.; Carl, Walter, Otto and Alfred, all of Garner. One sister died in 1900 at the age of four.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, July 14. There will be a short service at the home of his parents in Ventura at 1:30 o’clock and at St. John’s Lutheran church at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in St. John’s cemetery. His late pastor, the Rev. W.T. Wolfram, will be in charge of the services.
