Fr. Michael SchuellerWilliam Edward Lapitz, the son of Francis Thomas and Stella C. (Rayhons) Lapitz, was bom November 23, 1918 at Duncan. He attended Garfield Township
School #9, Britt High School and Garner High School graduating in 1936. Following high school, he worked as a painter and carpenter. From 1942 to 1946 he served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II spending six months in France and Germany. Bill attended the University of Minnesota from 1947 to 1951 receiving his bachelor of science degree in education. He taught in Kanawha from 1951 to 1952 and mathematics at Rudd-Rockford Marble Rock High School from 1952 until 1979, when he retired from teaching. After his retirement, he returned to Duncan to care for his sister. In 1989, he moved to Iowa City and in June of 1990 he moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner and a former member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Bill belonged to the American Legion in Rockford and was a member of the NEA and ISEA.He is survived by his sister, Alice Meister of Manning; a nephew, Bill Meister of Manning; two nieces, Kathy Nash of Sedona, AZ and Connie Meister of Sacramento, CA; and special friends, Frank and Lora Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Frank Lapitz; and a sister, Margaret Lapitz.
