William Craige Robertson, was born at Collins, IA May 23, 1911, the son of Robert Craige and Nellie (Sperry) Robertson. He was educated at Collins and Alden where he graduated in 1929. He attended Grinnell College and the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. From 1932-36, he published the "Hampton Reminder" in Hampton. On April 4, 1937, he married Eunice F. Schumacher at Hampton. He worked in a shoe store in Oelwein in 1937 and from 1938-40, managed a shoe store in Waverly. From 1942-44, he worked for the Bellingham Marine & Shipbuilding Corporation in Bellingham, WA. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician's mate. After the service he was a salesman with the Perfection Manufacturing Company in Minneapolis and later with the Mishawaka Rubber & Woolen Manufacturing Company. In the fall of 1949, Bill and Eunice moved to Garner and owned and operated the Grill Cafe. He was also an auditor for the International Shoe Company in Houston, TX. Bill owned and operated Bill's Leather & Shoes out of the old bank building from 1960 until he retired in 1979. He enjoyed his family, friends, music, fishing and golfing.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Garner American Legion and had belonged to the Lion's Club, the Garner Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa Restaurant Association. He had also served on the Garner City Council.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Robertson of Garner; his daughter, Connie Mae Howard and her husband, Ted, of River Falls, WI; two grandchildren, Craig and Kimberly and two cousins, Maxine Sperry Betts and Buddy Sperry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandmother, "Ma" Sperry.
