Daughter of Hans and Karen Marie (Nielsen) Olson. Was baptized in infancy and confirmed at a tender age in the Lutheran faith. She obtained her education in her native community, where she grew to womanhood. She came to Britt, IA in 1913. In 1915 she was united in marriage to Carl Hampe. Their wedding took place in Britt, where they established their home. Mr. Hampe was engaged in the livestock disposal service. The home was blessed with 3 sons and 2 daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Hampe were active in community life. She was professional with gardening, her many flowers and crocheting. She was a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge. Her life always centered with her family and friends.
Mrs. Hampe is survived by her children, Donald and his wife, the former Enid Joyce Anderson, Corwith; Anna Marie and her husband Donald Park, Britt; Elsie and her husband Fred Leerar, Britt; Carl Elmer, Des Moines; James and his wife, the former Della Rasmuson, Britt; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 sisters and 4 brothers, Mrs Anna Sorensen, Britt and Jennie, Marie, Kristine, Ludwig, Otto, Peter and Olaf Olson, all in Denmark. Also surviving are an aunt and uncle, Hans and Karen Marie Olson, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl in 1962, 1 son and 1 daughter in infancy.
Casket Bearers: Jerry Smidt, Robert Leerar, Dick Leerar, Paul Hampe, Daniel Hampe and James Bull.
