MRS, NONNA KRAUS RITES HELD SUNDAY IN KLEMME CHURCH.

RESIDENT OF COUNTY FOR 60 YEARS CAME FROM GERMANY AT AGE 21.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Nonna Kraus were held Sunday afternoon at the Immanuel Reformed church at Klemme with the pastor the Rev. Calvin Grossheusch, assisted by the Rev. William Huenemann of Garner officiating. Mrs. Kraus was a charter member of this church.
Mrs. Kraus died at her home in Klemme Thursday Jan. 30, following a heart attack. Her death was unexpected and came as a great shock to relatives and friends.
Mrs. Nonna Kraus was born April 7, 1861 at Gnitlingren, Germany the first child of Jacob and Christina Blumer. She was baptized in te Eangelical church and received her religious instruction and was confirmed there. At the age of 21 she came to America and lived with her aunt, Mrs. John Goll until her parents and family arrived the following year. The Blumer family farmed in Liberty township for many years.
She married Karl J. Kraus February 14, 1884 and they lived in Garner 10 years where Mr. Kraus was a blacksmith, and later they move to a farm near Klemme, where Mr. Kraus died in October, 1934. Mrs. Kraus remained on the farm with her son, Albert.
Two of her six children, Louise, 18, and Alvin,5, proceeded their mother in death. In 1904 Jake Blumer and his wife, a brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Kraus, were both summoned and after their deaths Mrs. Kraus cared for the the seven orphaned children as well as her own.
A sister, Rose Blumer, who made her home with Mrs, Kraus for a number of years, died eight years ago; a brother, Christ Blumer, of New Knoxville, Ohio, died in October 1939; and a sister, Mrs. A.E. Katter of Garner, died four months ago.
Left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Kraus are four children; Karl Kraus of Garner, Mrs. Martin Bachman and Albert Kraus of Klemme and Emil Kraus of Garner; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her nieces and nephews whom she reared, Mrs. Anna Waddingham of Ventura, Mrs. Herman Baack of Klemme, Miss Minnie Blumer of Jewel, Emil Blumer of Liberty Township, Mrs. John Lemke of Garner, Walter Blumer of Klemme, and Jake Blumer of Garner.
Pall bearers at the funeral were Deputy Sheriff Elmer Katter, Ben Katter, Walter Blumer, Jake Blumer, John Goll, and George Goll. Burial was made at the Ell church cemetery near Klemme.
Relatives from a distance attended the were John and Harley Kraus and Mrs. Fensterman of Edgewood; Henry Kraus of Elkport; and Mrs. Jake Kraus and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Evelen Kraus of Volga City.
