MRS. KATTER, 78 DIED TUESDAY AT HOME IN GARNER
PIONEER WOMAN WHO SPENT 60 YEARS IN COUNTY TO BE BURIED THURSDAY
Mrs, August E. Katter, who had spent the last 60 years in Hancock County, passed away at 4:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3, at her home in Garner. She had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral rites will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home in Garner and at 2:10 o'clock at the Zion Reformed church of which Mrs. Katter was a member. Burial will be made at the Peace Reformed cemetery south of Garner. The Rev. William Huenemann pastor of the Zion and Peace Reformed churches, will officiate.
Louisa Christina Blumer was born in Knitlingen, Wittenberg, Germany, May 4, 1862, and came to the United States in 1880 when she was 18 years of age. She came direct to Hancock county and lived here ever since.
Nov, 26, 1885, she was united in marriage with August E. Katter at the Peace Reformed church, and the couple lived in Liberty township until 1913, when they moved to Garner where they have since resided. In November Mr. and Mrs. Katter would have reached the fifty-fifth anniversary of their wedding.
Seven children were born to the union, of whom three preceeded their mother in death. Survivors are her husband, Mr. Katter; two sons, Ben H. Katter of Garner and Deputy Sheriff Elmer Katter of Garner; two daughters, Edna now Mrs P.D. Leese of Aredale, and Edith, now Mrs. Paul Elling of Garner; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fern Katter; one sister, Mrs. Charles Kraus of Klemme; 18 grandchildren; and many distant relatives and friends.
Children who preceded their mother in death were Alvin J., Cora and Walter Katter.
