Obituary
Ole T. Olson was born March 11, 1837, at Sjold, near Stavanger, Norway, and died October 5, 1909, at his home farm two and a half miles northwest of Jewell, at the advanced age of 72 years, 6 months, and 24 days. He was married to Miss Margrethe Johnson April 20, 1869, and on May 12th of the same year Mr. Olson and his bride left their native land for America, locating in Iowa, near New Sharon, in Mahaska county. There they lived until February 1901 when with their family they removed to Jewell, purchasing the farm where they have since made their home and where the family still resides.
To Mr. and Mrs. Olson three children have been born, James, Clarence and Miss Bertha [should be Martha], all of whom still survive and are at home. Mr. Olson in the eight and a half years he lived in this vicinity became known and esteemed as one of the prominent and progressive farmers of the community, and a citizen of real and substantial worth. His death came at the end of a long and well spent life and is sincerely regretted by hosts of friends and neighbors in the vicinity, all of whom feel the loss of a good friend and neighbor and a worthy citizen.
The funeral services were conducted last Friday from the home and from the church, which had been appropriately decorated by sympathizing friends. Rev. Eastvold spoke the final words of consolation to the bereaved family and the remains were laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery at Jewell.
