S. A. Stolp Passes Away

At one o'clock in the afternoon, Saturday, October 9, Silas A. Stolp, a well known resident of Jewell, died at his home in town after a long and painful illness. For a long time Mr. Stolp has not enjoyed vigorous health and during the past year he has almost continuously been an invalid. He suffered from what was thought to be an affliction of the liver, but physicians were unable to give him aid and last Saturday death came to relieve his sufferings. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Christian church, conducted by Rev. W. C. Cole of Goldfield, Mr. Stolp's former pastor. The body was laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery.

Silas A. Stolp was born in Ohio February 13, 1852. His early life was spent in the east and for a considerable time in Illinois. About thirty years ago he came to Iowa, residing since that time in the vicinity of Jewell and for ten years past in Jewell. He was married to Miss Addie Lakin, of Ellsworth, in June 1887. To this union three daughters were born, Mrs. Ora May Espeland of Gifford, and Miss Mabel and Merle who live at home. The wife and three daughters survive to mourn the loss of the husband and father. His aged mother and two sister and two brothers, of Shabbona, Ill., and a brother residing in Eagle Grove, also survive.

In November, 1905, Mr. Stolp became a member of the Christian church at Jewell, and has ever been a faithful Christian man. The patience and resignation with which he bore the pain of his long sickness were traits characteristic of the man, who always did the best he could and accepted the results, whatever they might be, without complaint.

The friends and neighbors all join with the Record in extending sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family in this hour of their great loss.

Among the relatives present at the funeral were Brint Lakin and wife, Ben Lakin and wife, Mrs. Abbie Lakin and children, Glen Lakin, and Emory Anderson, all of Ellsworth; Oscar Lakin of Auburn, P. H. Espeland and family, of Gifford, Will Igou of Webster City, Arthur Reagan and wife of Alden, Miss Bertha Espeland of Gifford, and Miss Emma Hoon of Ames.
