Ex-Supervisor W. D. Bonner Is Dead

After fifteen months of lingering sickness and suffering W. D. Bonner, one of the prominent and substantial citizens of Hamilton county, passed away at his home in Jewell Friday morning of last week. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Metcalf, of Blairsburg. Mr. Bonner's former associates on the board of supervisors, H. T. Wilson and N. H. Bawden, Auditor A. J. Peterson, Supervisor O. N. Sexy, and John Groves and J. S. Smith served as pallbearers. A large party of friends from Webster City, about thirty in number, motored down to attend the funeral services, and from Jewell and surrounding country a large crowd of old friends and neighbors gathered at the home to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The floral tributes were large in number and very beautiful. The body was laid at rest in Evergreen cemetery.

William Donnon Bonner as born at Mount Vernon, Ohio, July 19, 1856, and died at Jewell, Iowa, October 17, 1913, at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 28 days. In 1865 he came in an emigrant train with his parents, Jarred and Zerelda Bonner, to Hamilton county, Iowa, the family settling on a farm in Lyon township, where deceased has made his home practically ever since until he removed with his family to Jewell four years ago last spring. He attended high school in Webster City and afterward followed the carpenter trade for a few years. He then returned to the farm, purchasing the old homestead.

On April 5th, 1881 he was married in Webster City to Miss Louisa Anderson, Rev. L. N. Call officiating, and to this union seven children were born, Roy, Fred and Mabel now live on the farm, George resides in Jewell, Gladys teaches in the Ogden high school, Marian attends school at Cedar Falls, and John is at home.

Mr. Bonner always took a deep and active interest in public affairs and has been entrusted with many offices of responsibility in the county, always rendering acceptable public service. The latest position held by him was that of member of the board of supervisors, in which office he was serving his second term when a few months ago ill health made it necessary for him to resign his place. He rendered very acceptable service in the office of supervisor during these past years when that office, due to the large amount of drainage work being done in the county, was an office of unusual responsibility. Throughout his life Mr. Bonner has been closely identified with the progress and up-building of his community and hosts of friends and neighbors testify to his worth as a citizen and neighbor.

Mr. Bonner is survived by his wife, seven children, and three brothers, John G., of Sterling, Neb., Newton C., of Jewell, and George E., of Eagle Grove.
