More commonly known as Jerry Reade, was almost continuously a resident of Jewell ever since the town was originally established, died at the home in Jewell of his daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Bonner, where he made his home. He had been in failing health for several years, and about a week prior to his death he fell on an icy sidewalk, the shock of the fall combined with ailments incident to his age resulting in his death. He died at the age of 86 yrs 2mos 9 days. He lived in Onslow until 1881 when he came to Jewell after living in Webster City for 10 years.

He was married at Onslow, Iowa, March 18, 1875, to Mary Elizabeth Silsbee. Five children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy, and one son, Kenneth, died Sept. 19, 1921. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Myrtie Bonner, and two sons, Bert Reade and Thomas Reade, all of Jewell; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister, Nels and Sam Reade and Mrs. Ruth Hutton, all of Wyoming, Iowa;
