OBITUARY

The community was saddened Friday morning when it was learned that C. J. Monson, one of our respected citizens, had passed away.

C. J. Monson was born in Norway in 1847 and died Friday, April 21, at 1:15 a. m. at his home in the north part of town, heart trouble bein the cause of his death. Mr. Monson came to America July 4th, 1873 and settled at Webster City, then located on a farm northeast of Stanhope and later moved to town where he resided at the time of his death. He was united in marriage December 15, 1873 to Johanna Larson, and to this union eleven children were born. Seven children having preceded him in death. The four living children are Mrs. Theo. Wing of Stanhope, Mrs. C. K. Brandrup of Webster City, Mrs. I. L. Berven of Stanhope and Mrs. Roy Brandrup of Iroquies, South Dakota, all of them being present at the funeral.

Mr. Munson seemed to be in his usual health until about 4 days before his death. He seemed to fail rapidly from the first and all that loving hands could do, was done but to no avail. It seems as though his work was done on this death and it was God's will. He was always kind to his neighbors and was loved by everyone whom he met. We feel the loss of a man like this, but while it is our loss, we realize it is his eternal gain as he was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church and very devoted to his Master.

Funeral services were held at the house, April 23rd at 2:00 o'clock and at Zion Church at 3:00 o'clock, Rev. Wick officiating. Four sons-in-law, and two nephews, acted as pall bearers. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery north of Zion church.

A large number of people gathered to pay their last respects and their sympathy goes out to Mrs. Monson in her sad bereavement and to the four daughters who are left to mourn the sad taking away of a loving husband and father.
