Mrs. Mildred Norton Passes Away
This community was shocked indeed when Mr. Wm. Anderson received word at eleven o'clock Monday forenoon announcing the death of his daughter Mildred at her home in Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Norton had been sick for some time and her mother was with her at the time of death. Yet although not altogether unexpected the news of her death comes as something of a shock to everyone in this community where the deceased had grown to womanhood. Owing to the difficulty in getting messages through it cannot yet be definitely announced as to what funeral arrangements will be made, although it is possible that the body will be brought here for interment.
Mildred Anderson was born at the farm home east of town Aug. 18, 1876. In 1884 removed with the family to Webster City where she attended the Webster City schools, in 1895 graduated from Iowa State College at Ames, and until about two years ago taught in the high schools at Webster City, Avoca, Walnut and Harlan. On the first of September, 1905, she was married to Harry G. Norton and since that time resided in Los Angeles. Since June she has been unwell, suffering from rheumatism and pleurisy. Her sister, Keo, was with her in June and July and in the latter part of July her mother went out to Los Angeles and remained until death came, at nine o'clock Monday night, Sept. 9th.
Born and reared to womanhood in this vicinity, Mildred Anderson was well-known and beloved by a host of friends, and in her school days and the years spent teaching the circle was extended of friends who mourn her loss and unite in extending heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing husband and family in their bereavement.
Later: Mr. Anderson received a wire late last night announcing that the body will arrive here next Monday night.
