MRS. WM. SWENSON
Helen Peterson Swenson, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Peterson, was born at Randall, Iowa, June 25, 1868 and passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge Feb. 18, 1939. She was 70 years, 8 months and 23 days old.
She was baptized and confirmed in St. Petri Lutheran church, Story City, by Rev. N. Amlund. In April, 1895, she was married to William Swenson. They lived in Webster City and later moved to Fort Dodge. Mr. Swenson died in October, 1926.
Mrs. Swenson spent 35 years in Fort Dodge and was widely known as a practical nurse. She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran church in Fort Dodge, and was a member of the Ladies Aid and Riverside Circle of that church. Her church will greatly miss her.
During the last five weeks she suffered great pain, which she bore very patient.
Funeral services were held in St. Olaf church at 12:30, Monday, Feb. 10, conducted by the Rev. Magnus Nodtvedt. During the services Mrs. Jesse Olson sang "My God How Wonderful Thou Art" and "Under His Wings." Mrs. Doris Wood and Mrs. C. P. Herringlake sang, "Asleep in Jesus."
Services were also held at Elim Lutheran church at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. M. Nodtvedt, with Rev. G. O. Paulsrud assisting. A men's quartet, O. J. Sopeland, S. M. Teigland, J. H. Brekken and Theo. Hoversten sang two numbers.
Mrs. Swenson was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by three sisters, Agnes and Regina of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Dora Owenson of Randall, and one brother, John of Randall.
The floral contributions were numerous, and a sum $25 was given by friends and relatives to home and foreign missions, Beloit orphanage, and to the new St. Olaf church site.
Mrs. Swenson was laid to rest in Mamrelund cemetery, east of Randall.
