Thomas West Died Suddenly

Well Known Man of This Community Suffered Cerebral Hemorrhage in Minn.

Thomas T. West died very suddenly at the home of his brother-in-law, S. B. Teig, near Nerstrand, Minn., Wednesday evening of last week. He had not shown any signs of indisposition and was working about the barn doing chores early in the evening, when he suddenly pitched forward while handling silage. He was picked up and taken to the house, where he died about 9 o'clock the same night. The doctor pronounced it death from cerebral hemorrhage, or stroke.

The body was brought to Story City by the Kenyon undertaker, Reuben Hanson, and the funeral held in the Bethel church.

Obituary

Thomas T. West, oldest son of Thomas and Martha West, was born neat Story City, Ia., in Hamilton county, Sept. 26, 1877, and died at Nerstrand, Minn., Feb. 15, 1933. He was at the time of his death 55 years, 4 months and 19 days old. In 1906 he moved with his parents to South Dakota, where he lived until the death of his father in 1925. He then moved back to Iowa for a year, after which he went to live with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Teig of Nerstrand, Minn.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Clear Lake and Ellsworth church, five miles west of Randall. Since then he has attended the Lutheran church where he has been staying. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at Nerstrand, where Rev. R. Rosenquist officiated, after which the remains were taken to Dick Munson's home in Story City. Funeral services were also held in the Bethel church here Monday, Feb. 20th, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated, assisted by Rev. H. Oppedal, a life-long friend of the deceased. A very large audience was present. Mrs. Lester Henderson and the Bethel choir each sang a song. Interment was made in the Jewell cemetery where several of the West family are buried.

The West family have had their share of sorrow lately. Within three years four in that family have passed away.

Thomas West leaves to mourn his hasty departure two brothers and five sister. They are Henry West of Story City, Joseph West of Jewell, Mrs. Dick Munson of Story City, Mr. G. S. Olson of Jewell, Mrs. M. J. Teig of Stanhope, Mrs. S. B. Teig of Nerstrand, Minn. and Miss Elsie West of Story City, besides many other relatives and friends.
